Blackmores Professional - Sodical Plus 84t
Sodium, calcium, and iron phosphates are used for mineral supplementation. This formulation combines sodium phosphate, calcium phosphate, and iron phosphate in a single tablet.
When prescribed by a healthcare professional, Sodical Plus is generally well tolerated at the recommended dose and may be prescribed for infants, children, pregnant and lactating women, and the elderly.
The easy-to-swallow tablet can be halved or crushed to allow for low-dose prescribing for infants and children.
PRESCRIBING INFORMATION
Calcium, iron, and phosphate are essential for the structure and function of bones, teeth, and red blood cells during childhood and other periods of rapid growth and development. Sodium and phosphate play important roles in regulating extracellular fluid and pH balance.
GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT
Calcium plays a key role in mitotic division, the process by which cells divide and growth occurs. It is required in higher amounts during childhood, adolescence, and pregnancy. Phosphate, essential in all human cells, supports normal growth and development and is also required in greater quantities during periods of rapid growth. Calcium phosphate is incorporated into the skeleton and is vital for bone and teeth development.
ENERGY PRODUCTION
Phosphate is a component of intracellular compounds such as ATP and cyclic AMP, playing a critical role in energy production.
HAEMATOLOGY
As a key component of haemoglobin, iron is essential for the structure and function of healthy blood. Phosphate regulates iron phosphate absorption and forms part of ferritin, the iron storage complex. It is also incorporated into 2,3-diphosphoglycerate (2,3-DPG), a compound in red blood cells that controls oxygen release by haemoglobin. Calcium also supports red blood cell production.
ACID-BASE BALANCE
The phosphate buffer system, involving sodium monohydrogen phosphate and sodium dihydrogen phosphate, is one of the body’s key mechanisms for maintaining intracellular acid-base balance, acting as an efficient buffer under both acidic and alkaline conditions.
