How to Prepare for Great Winter Health

March 26, 2019

Autumn is finally upon us and our good friend Kirsten, from Casuarina Farm, describes Autumn as a ‘season of change and letting go. Many trees let their leaves fall understanding and embracing the notion that a time of rest is approaching. As full bloom has passed, it is now a wonderful time to nurture and support your body in preparation for Winter’. Being biodynamic farmers Kirsten and Adrian really understand the cycles of nature as their whole philosophy is working with our beautiful ea....

The Lost Art of Convalescence

July 26, 2018

I like to talk about the idea of convalescence this time of year as we see so many people suffering from ongoing viruses, coughs and colds that take many weeks to resolve. Did you know that Australia is now one of the nations that work the longest hours in the world? The relaxed image of the easy-going Aussie would seem a thing of the past. The pressure we feel from our workplace or family or most importantly ourselves has us continually ‘soldiering-on’  We see ourselves as invincible and ....

Get Ready for Winter Now

April 18, 2018

On the weekend we ordered some native plants and trees for our garden as well as seedlings for our winter vegie crop (broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, parsnips, carrots, winter greens and peas). The expert down at the nursery told us that now is the ideal time to plant because there’s still enough warmth in the air and soil for the plants to establish their root systems before Winter. If we leave it too late, when the warmth is all gone, then they won’t get a chance to establish themsel....

The Lost Art of Convalescence

Did you know that Australia is now one of the nations that work the longest hours in the world? The relaxed image of the easy-going Aussie would seem a thing of the past. The pressure we feel from our workplace or family or most importantly ourselves has us continually ‘soldiering-on’  We see ourselves as invincible and that any illness is either a weakness or a nuisance that needs to be dealt with quickly so we can get on with the important things in our lives. And as a result we do not al....

It’s Terminator Time

July 3, 2017

The cold blast has seen both an onslaught of acute viral attacks both in-store and in our Naturopathy clinic. These viruses are coming on fast. Symptoms are acute and recovery is slow. The symptoms being reported are headache, sore throat, muscle ache, chest pain and coughing, runny nose, nausea, dizzy spells, nausea, general malaise, loss of voice and a persistent post-viral, dry cough. Colds and flu are caused by viruses Viruses are essentially strands of genetic material enclosed in a pro....

Navigating the Vitamin Maze

October 4, 2016

When you walk into a health food store is the array of vitamins confronting, confusing and overwhelming? Do you wonder whether you actually need a certain supplement or what it is for, or how much to take? We often hear that if you eat well you shouldn’t need supplements. With the amount of chemicals we are exposed to, both in our foods and in our environment coupled with the pace of our lifestyle which brings added stress and pressure, supplements are essential health boosters that supp....

Our Top 6 Immune Tonics

April 29, 2014

Yesterday’s Geelong Advertiser (29th April, 2014) reported that almost one quarter of all Australian adults suffered flu symptoms last year. There’s been a lot of noise in the media in recent weeks  about the flu ‘hitting’ Australia... and it’s about this time every year that we see similar headlines and reports. The thing to remember though is that the flu is a virus that has been around for thousands of years and every year, at about this time, we are at a higher risk of infectio....

The Power of Convalescence

July 28, 2013

There are a myriad of really nasty bugs around at the moment that seem to be lingering in the form of post-viral coughs, colds, lowered mood, energy and vitality. The message we keep hearing in-store goes something like this… “I need something that works fast because I have this deadline; I can’t take time off work; I can’t be sick...” My concern is that what we are seeing is a direct reflection of a driven, unbalanced culture that allows no time for illness.  Our society expect....

Top Immune Herbs to Prevent Winter Illness

April 19, 2013

There’s been a lot of noise in the media in recent weeks about the “deadly flu” hitting Australia... and it’s about this time every year that we see similar headlines. The thing to remember though is that the flu is a virus that has been around for thousands of years and every year, at about this time, we are at a higher risk of infection from viruses because of increased exposure to them. We have no control over this exposure but we do have control over our immune system and we can s....
