Mammoth Health

Rongoā Māori

kiwiherbMany of us are very familiar with the concept of Traditional Chinese Medicine and some have also come across Ayurveda, or Traditional Indian Medicine. In fact most indigenous cultures have their own plant medicine and the beauty of Western Herbal Medicine is that we can embrace and include amazing herbs from many different traditional cultures in our dispensary and use them to successfully treat health conditions.

Rongoā Māori, or Maori Traditional Herbal Medicine is only just beginning to come to the fore of our minds with the most commonly known native plant being Manuka. Others include Koromiko, Kawakawa, Horopito, Poroporo, Totara and Tanekaha and they have all being long valued for their therapeutic actions and unique healing properties.

Manuka (Leptospermum scoparium), is by far the most popular New Zealand native herb with a variety of actions. It is probably most well known for its powerful anti-bacterial and anti-fungal actions which have been well researched and documented. It has been shown to be effective against some twenty different types of bacteria including the notorious methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). Activity against various species of fungi has also been demonstrated, including those responsible for athlete’s foot and candida (thrush).

Over the past year we have introduced a liquid herbal range in-store that have embraced these traditional Maori herbs in their products and we have had amazing results. I have been so impressed with the efficacy and quality of the products (wherever possible Kiwiherb products are certified organic), and had overwhelming positive feedback from our customers that have used it, that I’ve invited Debra from Kiwiherb in store on Thursday 14th April at 5.30pm to chat to you about the many ways you can use this liquid herbal range in everyday life.  She will explain the role of each herb and how they impact our immune system to help the body fight and recover effectively from viruses and also give you information and tips on the various uses of each herbal remedy.

What is very exciting is that Kiwiherb has a range specifically designed for children as well as an adult range. Debra will be focusing on Winter immunity and how you can prepare both yours and your family’s immune system now, to best prevent Winter illness. There will be a sample gift on arrival and plenty of information, tips and tastings.

So looking forward to seeing you there.
