Keep your Stress Levels Under Wraps
The Christmas season quite often has us stretched to the very limit… with demanding work deadlines, Christmas preparations and the many extra social events that this time of year brings. We have had many come in-store lately feeling anxious, exhausted, teary, and feeling like ‘opting out’ of the whole Festive Season.
Many of us have become so busy just surviving our daily demands and expectations that slowly we have become disconnected with the simple joys and traditions that the Christmas season brings. Whether this is from the crazy commitments we cram into our days -every day – or whether it’s from societal expectation to create the perfect Christmas day. Have you noticed the constant stream of TV shows showing us how to create a perfect Christmas Feast (Nigella’s perfect Christmas lunch anyone?)
Now is the time to use my Top 4 Herbs to help support and nourish your nervous system
Withania is an Ayurvedic herb (traditional Indian) and one of our favourites for stress and debility. It is the number one tonic to the whole nervous system and used when we are under both acute and chronic stress. It supports adrenal function by acting as an adaptogen. Adaptogens increase the body’s resistance to stress, trauma, anxiety and fatigue.
Rhemannia is one of the most important tonics in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). It is used to nourish and replenish depleted vital energy known as “qi”. Our “qi” reflects how energetic, optimistic vivacious we are. It’s pretty difficult to remain positive, upbeat and at our best if we are stressed and our nervous system is depleted.
Generally when we have good vitality we have a good mindset – we’re positive about life and find joy in our days and in others.
Rhodiola is another beautiful adaptogenic herb that is very rejuvenating and restorative. Traditionally rhodiola has been used to increase physical endurance, work productivity and longevity and was revered as a “gift of the spirits”. More recent research has revealed rhodiola as a great protective herb to the nervous system, (and also the cardiovascular system), a great anti-fatigue, anti-anxiety, anti-depressive and anti-ageing. Wow a must have!
Schizandra is specifically used when feeling depleted both physically and mentally and suffer with poor memory and concentration. It is also a wonderful herb that supports the liver to detoxify effectively – great to use this time of year
